The war in the Gaza Strip resumed on Friday after talks to extend a humanitarian pause collapsed, with both Hamas and Israel blaming each other for the breakdown of the truce.
According to Hamas, Israel rejected the movement’s offers on the exchange of prisoners.
“We offered to release the elderly held in our custody in exchange for the release of the elderly prisoners in the occupation prisons, but the occupation refused that,” Khalil al-Hayya, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, told Al-Jazeera.
He added that Hamas suggested handing over the bodies of several hostages who were killed in Israeli airstrikes, but Israel also refused.
